Article: “Sorry guys, these lots are not for you” – ‘Home’ Section (Pg B1)

Question 1:
What were some of the reasons cited in the article why there was a need to have parking lots for women only in these buildings?

One reason is it would be less tiring for women who wear high heels and have to park at high storeys in the carpark.Also it would be safer for them to park near to the entrance of the carpark


Question 2:
(a) In your opinion, do you think it is necessary to allocate parking lots for women only? Why?

No. I dun think it is necessasry to allocate parking lots for women as it would be unfair to men who have age 1o and below children. It should be allocated to both men and women.

(b) Which group of people do you then feel should be allocated such priority parking? Explain.

I feel that disabled and old people should be allocated to such priority parking.As they have difficulty moving around, it would be much easier for them to reach the entrance of the shopping mall.

Straits Times E-Forum Reflection

Week 6 (9th March)

Article: “Help for single mums in downturn” – ‘Main’ Section (Pg A4-5)

Question 1:
What project was launched to help single mums? Briefly explain what is this project about?

The project, called WeCare for U, is aimed to give jobs and support to single mothers during the ecomonic downturn. It reaches out to single mums who are either divorcees or widows who have to work and take care of the family but cannot find help. The mothers will get help from the project in finding jobs and will also be able to join support groups that arrange activities for them and their children in these tough times.

Question 2:
Imagine you come across a single mum who is unemployed, what are some advice you can give her? Who can she turn to?

I would advise her to ask other people whether if they know which companies are employing people and also i would advise her to go counselling. The single mum can also turn to her children if possible or some social workers.

Article: “NTU Death Fall” – ‘HOME’ Section (Pg B6)

Question 1:
What were some indications which showed that the victim was facing problems before he committed the rash act?
A fan of the computer game World of Warcraft, Mr Widjaja suddenly threw himself into it with a vengeance, spending as much as six hours a day huddled in front of his PC.
Friends said this was unusual: He usually stopped playing when preparing for exams or when projects were due, and he had a looming deadline of March 10 to submit the draft for his Final-Year Project (FYP).
Then, two weeks ago, he abruptly cut off all communication with his friends.
Though this occurred around the time that Mr Widjaja, 21, was told that his Asean Scholarship had been revoked, his closest friend in Singapore dismissed talk that this was a reason for his strange behaviour.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, the Indonesian student said Mr Widjaja retreated into his shell because he was having problems coping with his FYP. (Final Year Project)

(a)Is it very stressful being a student in Singapore? Explain.

Yes. It is very stressful being a student in Singapore as a student have to keep studying , do a lot of homework given by the teacher and have to meet the parents's standard of high marks.


(b)What are some problems you face as a student which adds to your stress level?
Homework, studying,doing lots of homework given by the teacher and meeting the requirementof parents

Question 1:
What are some reasons stated in the article why some people choose to have body art like tattoos or piercings done on parts of their body.
They feel that tattoos and piercings are nice as it can let other people feel that they are special and it makes them look cool.
Question 2:
(a) What are some impressions you would form of a person whose body is covered with tattoo?
I would feel that some are gangsters as they look like they have been to jail before so normally i would not stay too close to a person who has too much tattoos but some people that have tattoos may not be gangsters as they may do the tattoos out of curiosity
(b)Would you consider getting a tattoo in future? Why?
I will not get a tattoo in future as i feel that i am disfiguring my body and if i want to remove the tattoo, it would be very troublesome and it will leave a scar.

Being curious and under boyfriend pressure
1b)what are the consequences which a girl might face for engaging in casual sex
1 consequence is they might get sexually transmitted diseases and if she is a teenager she might
have to go for abortion as the boyfriend cannot afford to take care of her.
2)what are some of your reactions after reading this article?if one day, one friend of yours told u
that he or she had been engaging in sex what would u advice him or her?
i would tell him or her to stop engaging in sex as they might get sexually transmitted disease
